Research tasks often take several minutes, and a long task can look stuck when it's still working. This article shows how to tell what Multiply is doing, and what to do if it really has stopped.
Check what it's doing
While Multiply works, the panel under your message says Thinking... and lists each step, such as Searching the internet. Click it to see more. It changes to Thought when the turn is done.
Research runs through five phases: Planning research, Finding and reading sources, Analyzing findings, Writing report and Finalizing the report. As long as a phase is moving, the task is working.
Check the Blocks panel and the block cards in the chat. Output is often already there while the rest finishes. A block that's still running shows Gathering sources….
If it stops or shows an error
"This turn failed before it could begin, so nothing was done." Send your message again. If it happens again, contact support and include the Error ID from the message.
The answer stops partway, or Multiply says it will continue. Reply "continue". Multiply picks up from what's already in the task.
A source "paused our requests" or "could not be reached". Nothing was lost. Wait a few minutes and run the block again.
A full-page "Maintenance mode" screen. Multiply is being updated. Come back a little later and reload the page.
Tips
Very large tasks, with many files and blocks, get slower and less precise. Start a new task for the next piece of work. To carry results over, export the key blocks as PDF and attach them to the new task.
Split big requests into several focused tasks. They finish faster and are easier to check.
If you only need a quick answer, say so. See Getting shorter, faster answers.
FAQ
Can I stop a task that's running?
Not yet. If a task is heading the wrong way, let it finish and then tell Multiply what to change, or start a new task with a clearer prompt.
Will Multiply tell me when a task is done?
Notifications aren't available yet. On the Home page, recent tasks show a spinner while they run and a check mark when they're done.
How do I contact support?
Click the chat bubble in the bottom right corner. Include a link to the task and any Error ID you saw.
